At the risk of singling myself out as the biggest nerd in the community on my first day, I thought I'd ask this fun (and sometimes divisive) question!

I'm currently rewatching YuYuHakusho, and it holds up remarkably well.  When I was a kid it stood out in a huge way, but I couldn't put my finger on why.  Now that I'm an adult I understand.  It's got some of the tropes of DBZ, which an entire generation had their imaginations tickled by, but it's just a smarter show.  Well hold on, I shouldn't compare the two really - but the writing in YYH is surprisingly human, the music is infectious and the animation is straight-up badass.

Other major favorites include Cowboy Bebop (this may be overstated, but it's not overrated, the show is genius), Trigun (really knows how to have fun, never sacrifices its sense of heart), and Hunter X Hunter (rare power-up anime that has the heroes using logic and teamwork to get out of most problems rather than just their fists and a new transformation every time).

What're your favorites?  If you have recommendations that would be cool, too!

Deathnote is now and forever my favorite Anime of all time. I have watched through it like 4 times now. Gripping. Bleach is also amazeballs to but goes for tooooooo long.

Also classics like DBZ, Yugioh and Bayblades never go astray from my list.

Yess I need to give Death Note another watch!  It blew me away in highschool, definitely top quality content.

Bleach I've always avoided because of its length - I've heard it gets really repetitive which makes me sad.  If you loved Bleach man, try out Yu Yu Hakusho!  The same guy directed both shows, Yu Yu came a little earlier on in his career.  It's an unbelievable show, it just keeps changing and developing.

If you're interested, you can start it here:

I think there are over 200 episodes of Bleach at the moment. I would recommend Outlaw Star and One Man Death Punch if you haven't seen those as well.

I am gonna slightly deviate and say that my favourite manga is Naruto, Death note, Shinjeki no Kyojin (Is that how you spell it?) and favourite anime would be all of the above plus Code Geass and DBZ. Pretty stock standard ones tbh. I'm a much bigger fan of reading than watching so im more about the manga.

But It's all good innit?? ALL GOOD

God I love japanese

Yu Yu Hakusho is just over 100 episodes, and well worth it!  It's the kind of show that you never want to end.  The first 5 episodes are the setup for the series, and they totally sold me on the whole show.  But they're all about character development, so if you're not sure it's for you after those - watch the next 5 just for good measure.  The show changes quite a bit and becomes more stylish / badass / mysterious.  From then on it just continues to intensify, and the majority of people say their favorite arc is the Dark Tournament which starts at ep. 26.

Outlaw Star is a favorite of mine from childhood that I have yet to revisit, I'll dip my toes back into it some time without question 🙂  One Punch Man is hilarious!  I'm a few episodes in and trying not to binge it since there's not too much of it available yet.  Naruto is another classic that I never got into because, like Bleach, it seems totally endless.  I'm almost scared to get into it.  Shingeki no Kyojin - Is that Japanese for Attack on Titan?!  If so, you're bang up slotting that up there!  Such an incredible first season, and the second has finally started to release!  Code Geass I have yet to watch, but it's on my list - Right now I'm digging into Ergo Proxy, haven't decided if I love it yet or not.

But you're right Jeff, it's all - f#&*ing - good.
